The Legal Aid Service is a public legal entity funded by the state budget, which ensures access to legal consultation and legal assistance throughout the territory of Georgia for persons specified by law. The system of free legal aid was established in 2005. In 2007, the Law of Georgia on Legal Aid entered into force, which defined the institutional structure of the legal aid system, the circle of beneficiaries, and the conditions for receiving the service.
The Legal Aid Service is independent, is not subordinate to any state body, and is accountable only to the Parliament of Georgia, in accordance with the procedures established by Georgian legislation.
The Service’s goal is: to provide legal services and raise legal awareness in society.
The principles of the Service’s activities are: legality, equality, independence, and transparency.
Legal services include: legal consultation and legal assistance.
Receiving legal services: is free of charge and funded by the state budget.
