WWF Greece is an independent environmental non-governmental organization, member of the International WWF, a global network of scientists, volunteers and citizens, active in Greece for almost 30 years. Our mission is to stop the degradation of the natural environment, to protect biodiversity, to ensure the sustainable use of renewable natural
resources and to promote the reduction of pollution, wasteful consumption and reduce the human overall footprint on our planet.

The Lifestyle Footprint Reduction department at WWF Greece is on a mission to empower society to make sustainable choices that minimize their environmental impact. Everyone has a role to play in protecting our planet, and we offer a range of resources and initiatives designed to help shrink our daily footprint. Making Sustainable Swaps in food
choices, eco-friendly home, responsible consumption. Beyond daily habits:

 Product Design: We advocate for the ecodesign of products, ensuring minimal environmental impact throughout their lifecycle – from raw materials to disposal.
 Reduce, Reuse, Repair: We promote a circular economy by encouraging the reuse and repair of products to extend their lifespan and minimize waste.

Our efforts are concentrated both towards individuals and policy makers to gain the knowledge and tools to make a difference and create a ripple effect, fostering a more sustainable future for the planet.

TRAINEESHIP TASKS

Overall Goal:
● To provide a comprehensive analysis of the legal landscape for product reuse and repair across several European countries (indicatively Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Italy and the UK) highlighting key trends and initiatives.

Research Tasks:

● EU Framework:
○ Analyze the EU Circular Economy Action Plan. Identify its objectives and specific actions related to product reuse and repair.
○ Analyze the Waste Framework Directive regarding waste reduction targets and waste hierarchy (prioritizing prevention and reuse).

● National Legislation:
○ Choose a selection of EU member states (consider a mix of geographically diverse and economically influential countries).
○ Research national laws and regulations within these countries that promote product reuse and repair. This could include:
■ Take-back schemes for electronic devices.
■ Right-to-repair legislation for specific product categories (e.g., appliances).
■ Measures to combat planned obsolescence.
■ Availability of spare parts and repair manuals for consumers.
■ Incentives for repair businesses and reuse initiatives.

● Comparative Analysis:
○ Compare and contrast the approaches taken by different European countries.
○ Identify best practices and potential gaps in national legislation.

● Emerging Trends:
○ Explore potential upcoming EU legislation or initiatives related to product reuse and repair.
○ Consider how technological advancements like digital product passports could influence legislation.

Deliverables:

● Research Report: A comprehensive report summarizing the findings, including:
○ An overview of the EU framework for the circular economy.
○ Analysis of national laws in selected European countries.
○ Comparative assessment of national approaches.
○ Insights into emerging trends.

● Presentation: Prepare a clear and concise presentation summarizing the key findings of the research.

Additional Considerations:
● The trainee can utilize resources like the European Commission website, legal databases, and reports from environmental NGOs.
● Depending on the program length, the research depth can be adjusted.
● Encourage critical thinking and analysis of the research findings.
