DESCRIPTION OF THE STEP TRAINEESHIP PROVIDER

Musalaha transforms the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from within by changing Israeli-Palestinian relationships and attitudes vis-à-vis one another and reassess individual and group identities and narratives. Musalaha challenges the status quo of the conflict for the sake of human rights and democracy for all, by educating locals and internationals about systematic injustices and intensively transforming vulnerable and marginalized individuals into grassroots community leaders. Musalaha’s “Curriculum of Reconciliation” has been presented in the United Nations and has been adopted in global academic curricula. Many of Musalaha’s alumni are (local) policy makers, diplomats and leaders involved in academia and civil society.

Tasks of the applicant:
- academic research for the ‘Curriculum for Reconciliation’;
- conducting field research, interviews with Musalaha participants;
- conduct a wider academic study of Middle Eastern politics;
- attend and report project workshops/trips/other activities;

Due to Musalaha’s reach, reputation and impactful work in an area ridden with tensions, we request that the intern-candidate has a strong sense of responsibility, maturity, and has the ability to work independently. The intern will have the chance to interact with reconciliation experts and participants in the field, and therefore is accountable to respect the sensitive nature of work in reconciliation, including people’s perspectives.
Musalaha guides grassroots joint advocacy and peacebuilding based on justice, while challenging violations of international law and the power imbalance based on racist and discriminatory narratives. Musalaha’s Israeli and Palestinian staff members do not execute political agendas and do not campaign for one group of people. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in order to gauge the knowledge about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and one’s readiness and willingness to be engaged in reconciliation.
