MYLA is a professional organisation of lawyers founded in 2004. Its vision is to see North Macedonia as a just, fair and equitable society where the law ensures the dignity of the people, serves the public interest and secures a sustainable and safe environment. MYLA defends and promotes the fundamental principles and values enshrined in the Constitution. By utilising the power of the law, it protects and empowers the disempowered and advocates for improvements in laws and policies where individual liberties, the rule of law and the environment are fully protected.
MYLA has five key strategic aims (priorities) for the period 2023 – 2026:
Support legal empowerment of the disempowered;
Protect the rights of refugees and migrants;
Increase the impact of young lawyers and law students in safeguarding justice and rule of law;
Enhance societal resilience to crime and extremism; &
Increase the use of legal means in environmental protection
In realising its strategic priorities, MYLA employs the following activities:
Legal aid and other forms of support;
Legal research;
Capacity building of law students, legal professionals, authorities and CSOs
Strategic litigation;
Advocacy and lobbying.
Non-governmental organisation (NGO)
As an ELSA Traineeship intern engaged with MYLA, the intern will be responsible for conducting legal research and analysis to support strategic litigation efforts. They will assist in organizing events and preparing projects, ensuring that all activities align with MYLA’s objectives. The intern will also collaborate with team members to develop effective strategies, contributing to the overall success of the organization’s initiatives.
