The Academy of European Law was established in 1992 at the initiative of the European Parliament to provide professional training and a forum for debate for legal practitioners in European law. It is based in Trier,
Germany, just over the border from the EU’s judicial capital in Luxembourg. It organises training events and conferences across Europe and online, produces a wide range of e-learning programmes and publishes a quarterly Journal. It is a public foundation of which all EU Member States as well as the UK are patrons. The Academy’s 75 employees include nearly 20 lawyers of different nationalities, as well as communications, technical and logistical staff. It has a purpose-built conference centre in the ancient city of Trier in the heart of Germany’s Mosel wine region. Luxembourg, France and Belgium are literally next-door.

The internship will be based in the European Business Law department organising training for judges, lawyers and other legal practitioners in European law. The intern will assist with the organisation of one or more conferences, training courses or e-learning projects depending on the start date and duration of the internship. This will include desk-based research, practical support and the opportunity to meet some of
the leading specialists in European law. The intern should also be prepared to help with other tasks depending on the Academy’s needs at the time of the internship, for example, proof-reading, drafting or
support for market research. The internship will be supervised by the Academy’s human resources unit. The intern will be expected to report directly to one of ERA’s international team of lawyers or a member of
the Management Board.
