«European Lawyers in Lesvos – ELIL» has been present in Greece since 2016, aiming to provide legal assistance to applicants of international protection. The NGO is registered in Greece and in Germany and was founded in 2016 by the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) and the German Bar Association (DAV) and is now also supported by the French Bar Association (CNB).
ELIL was inspired by belief in the fundamental importance of upholding the rule of law, protecting human rights and ensuring meaningful access to legal assistance.
Our team of Greek asylum lawyers and volunteer asylum lawyers from other European countries, provides free, independent legal assistance to asylum seekers on Lesvos (since 2016), Samos (since 2020), Athens (since 2021) and Thessaloniki (since 2022).

a. Participation in family reunification cases under the R. 604/2013 and R. 1560/2003 (Mainly of unaccompanied minors):
‐ communication with applicants, if necessary and
‐ preparation of additional evidence and drafting of legal memos.
b. Participation in First instance interview preparations under the 1951 Convention/ Dir. 2011/95/EU /L. 4636/2019
‐ participation during the first instance preparation
‐ note taking of the grounds of the claim in collaboration with the lawyer
/ Research regarding the specific claim and ‐ drafting of legal memo after the first instance interview under the supervision of Greek lawyer.
expected Learning Outcomes:
‐ Familiarization with different procedures related to the recognition of international protection
‐ Investigation of different pieces of jurisprudence in EU regarding family reunification cases
‐ Extensive knowledge of research possibilities regarding sources and evidence of the examination of international protection criteria
‐ Practical and theoretical analysis of an important amount of different cases of international protection (variety of nationalities and ground of international protection)
‐ General knowledge of the Greek asylum procedure and registration
