DESCRIPTION OF THE STEP TRAINEESHIP PROVIDER

The main missions of the liaison judge are
- to assist in the processing of requests for international mutual assistance in criminal and civil matters, requests for investigations, transfers of proceedings and EAW and extradition procedures
- to inform the French and host country authorities of useful information concerning the organization and development of justice in these countries with a view to better mutual knowledge and reciprocal enrichment; to this end, s/he drafts comparative law notes, at the request of the SAEI;
- to facilitate the development of both bilateral and multilateral legal cooperation actions;
- to prepare, in conjunction with the judiciary concerned, the bilateral meetings necessary for the smooth functioning of judicial relations between the two countries.

In addition to these activities, the liaison judge is entrusted with a certain number of missions by the ambassador: drafting notes on legal issues, representing the ambassador on issues related to justice, or contributing to the embassy's actions with a judicial dimension.

TRAINEESHIP TASKS

The traineeship is with the French Liaison Judge in the Netherlands (The Hague). It will mostly consist of comparative law research: participating in research for notes and studies on comparative law, drafting, updating information sheets on the Dutch legal system, participating in meetings with Dutch experts on justice topics.
